Atlantic Media's business site to be called Quartz

Washington, D.C.—Atlantic Media Co. has announced that its yet-to-be-launched global business news site will be called Quartz. The site's Web address will be qz.com.

“We named it Quartz after the mineral that's a key component of tectonic shifts,” said Kevin J. Delaney, editor in chief of Quartz, in a statement. “We see the present world of business undergoing a seminal shift; and Quartz will be there, providing the leaders of this new global economy with the information they need.”

The site is hiring staffers and is expected to debut later this year. Atlantic Media has been working toward a digital business property at least since it hired Michael Kinsley, the founder of Slate, to head the planned site in 2009. Kinsley, however, left in early 2010, and development of the site was put on hold.
